NEW TRAILS IN STERLING FOREST STATE PARK
Overview
PMTB in partnership with the NYNJ Trail Conference, COMPLETED an additional 4.5 miles of trail in Sterling Forest State Park. PMTB contracted Tahawus Trails, a professional trail-building company, to speed up the new mountain bike-optimized multi-use trail construction. The Augusta Mine, McKeags, and Redback connector loop offer trail users an additional loop and more parking options by using the Laurel Meadow Pond Trailhead parking lot. We completed this loop in the fall, of 2023.
Our Current Mission
To continue to add to the existing multi-use trail network while keeping the same trail feeling and increasing mileage thus giving users more options by bike, foot, or hoof.
2024-2025 Plans
2024 Redback to Southgate
Redback South Trail
Timeline - Summer 2024 through Spring 2025.
Current status - fundraising and building through Tahawus Trails and volunteer sessions.
This segment is a realignment of the existing Redback trail from McKeags Meadow Trail back to Southgate. This area is extremely rocky and will pose trail-building challenges that will warrant machine building to speed up the process. This trail will eventually offer great tech and rock features with hints of flow. We will be finishing this section by hand. Sponsors, donations, and volunteers will be needed.
2024 Current Redback South Funding
Total project cost is $186,000.
Donate to Help Build the New Trails
While we are formulating a strategy to apply for available grants, this project will continue to require private funding to see it through to fruition. Please consider donating to help us pay for the work that needs to be done in 2024. Your generous donation will be earmarked for the machine work that Tahawus Trails will be doing in addition to some necessary tools and materials.
